Native to the Mediterranean region, but grow well in Britain, laurus nobilis is an aromatic evergreen shrub with green, glossy leaves, which are know as bay leaf and these can be used for seasoning in cooking.

Position: full sun or partial shade

Soil: fertile, moist but well-drained soil

Rate of growth: slow-growing

Hardiness: frost hardy

Garden care: Keep well-watered during the growing season and feed with a slow-release fertiliser.
Trim established plants lightly twice during the summer months to retain a balanced shape.
